New contest announced to recognize Wisconsin’s top soybean producers

Madison, Wis. – If you’re a soybean grower and think you’ve perfected a growing method that produces high yields, now you have an opportunity to win up to $1,000 in the Wisconsin Soybean Association’s Soybean Yield Contest. This new program encourages growers to challenge themselves to produce higher yields and to be rewarded for their efforts. Top growers will be recognized for achieving high yields while using sound, environmentally friendly production practices that are profitable as well.

Trophies and cash prizes will be awarded to first, second, and third place winners in each of two contest classes: non-irrigated and irrigated. The winner is the entry that has the highest soybean yield based on bushels per acre at 13 percent moisture.

“The United States is a powerhouse of soybean production in the world. What we learn from applying techniques to increase yields will help us more efficiently feed a growing world population,” said Andy Bensend, president of the Wisconsin Soybean Association. “A yield contest is a fun and exciting way to try things we might not otherwise do and to learn from others’ successes.”

Contest rules and qualifications include:

  • entrants must be a member of the Wisconsin Soybean Association
  • contest entry must be from at least 10 continuous acres of one variety
  • the variety entered must be currently commercially available
  • contest entry must be harvested in accordance with the harvest procedures set forth by WSA and supervised by an approved supervisor
