Study
of state soybean market potential underway
MADISON,
Wis. – February 10, 2006 – The feasibility of
locating a soybean crushing facility in Wisconsin is being
evaluated by state soybean growers, with funds provided
by a U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) grant and the
state checkoff program.
With
$50,000 provided by the USDA Value-Added Producer Grant,
and a matching grant provided by the Wisconsin Soybean Marketing
Board, a grower task force is working with consultants to
thoroughly evaluate the state soybean market. Consultants
will consider such overriding factors as soybean supply
and end user demand, permitting and the potential for financing
and situating a crush plant in Wisconsin.
The
project is just getting underway and should take about one
year to complete.
The
Wisconsin Soybean Marketing Board (WSMB) administers the
soybean grower checkoff statewide and is dedicated to maximizing
profitability of Wisconsin soybean producers via research,
education and outreach initiatives. Working together with
the national United Soybean Board, WSMB directs state soybean
funds to statewide, national and international projects
as part of the Soybean Promotion and Research Checkoff program.
