Feeding Seminars Offered For Hog, Dairy and Beef Producers
WISCONSIN
DELLS – December 27, 2006 -- Specialty feeding sessions
for dairy, pork and beef producers considering dried distillers
grains (DDGS) are scheduled for Thursday, February 1, at
the Kalahari Conference Center, Wisconsin Dells.
Expert
nutritionists leading these sessions are dairy feeding specialist,
Ken Kalscheur, Ph.D., associate professor at South Dakota
State University; Hans Stein, Ph.D., Extension swine specialist
at University of Illinois and Allen Trenkle, Ph.D., professor
of animal science at Iowa State University.
The
DDGS feeding sessions are part of the program scheduled
for Corn/Soy EXPO Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin Pork Association
(WPA) and Wisconsin Agri-Service Association (WASA) annual
meetings. Registration for the DDGS feeding sessions include
lunch, an evening reception and all events associated with
these meetings at no extra charge. Members of sponsoring
organizations pay only $60 Thursday, or $80 for Thursday
and Friday admission. Special $99 room rates that include
admission to the Kalahari indoor water park are available
to anyone registering for these meetings.
Along
with the DDGS feeding seminars, educational breakout sessions
planned for Thursday afternoon at Corn/Soy EXPO cover corn
and soybean pest control, crop fertility, crop insurance,
technical market analysis, reduced tillage, precision agriculture
and trading in carbon credits. Two sessions especially for
women are included: One on cooking with corn, pork and beans,
presented by a master chef; another on marketing for women
only, presented by Stewart-Peterson representatives.
The
Thursday morning program features Farm Advisor Moe Russell,
DTN Market Analyst Darin Newsom and Advanced Trading Consultant
Jim Cronin discussing new realities of biofuels. An industry
trade show, reception and Taste of Elegance also are on
tap Thursday.
Friday,
February 2, the program starts with a market update from
University of Wisconsin-Extension Economist Randy Fortenbery.
A general session sponsored by the Wisconsin Farm Bureau
Federation includes Teresa Lasseter, head of the United
States Department of Agriculture Farm Services Agency and
David Kruse, ComStock Investments. University of Wisconsin
Band Director Mike Leckrone addresses the conference during
Friday’s luncheon and brings along a few friends to
entertain the crowd.
Farm
Journal Agronomy Consultant Ken Ferrie presents a 2-hour
session on maximizing yields in continuous corn to concluding
the 2-day Corn/Soy EXPO.
